SATANIC STRATEGY - PART VI

By Douglas C. Nesbit, B.A.

Our ongoing series of Bible Studies, which began with the Call by The Almighty God to Abram in Ur of the Chaldees, in Genesis 12, has taken us through the sequence of subsequent Biblical passages which relate the family history of the generations of the Patriarchs and tribes of his progeny as they entered Egypt, and later emerged into Sinai through the miracles of The Exodus, heading eventually towards their Promised Land under the guidance of Moses and the direction of The Almighty God.

Consideration of the Levitical cities of refuge which were to be appointed in The Promised Land brought up a discussion regarding guilt, and hence of Satan, himself, whose name means "the adversary" or "the accuser."

Satan has great aspirations, and a comprehensive knowledge of God's Law. He has desired to ascend into heaven, and to exalt his throne above the stars of God (which may be taken as a symbol for God's Angelic host). He has stated: "I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north. I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High."

In order to accomplish this, Satan has drafted a legal plan as the basis of the strategy which he is following in seeking to retain his present power and even to extend it. Knowing that he, himself, lied to Adam and Eve, and that he has continued to employ lies and half-truths himself in maintaining his temporary authority upon the earth, he sees that, in contrast to his own practice, God's moral authority to judge him rests upon the total perfect adherence by God to God's Own Law and the total performance by The LORD of every unconditional promise and covenant given to man.

Satan seeks to make one or more of God's promises to man "null and void", thus creating a situation wherein God, having in this manner spoken and covenanted something which God will find impossible to carry out, God will thus also have told a lie to man, and hence will have to acknowledge that Satan, though a liar, is His moral equal. Satan seeks to have God remove Himself as Satan's Judge, having become guilty of the same offence as Satan, the Accused.

On previous studies we have seen that the whole record of Scripture contains many covenants and promises made to man by The Almighty, and failure to fulfil any one will constitute an instance of moral failure and thus imperfection on the part of God Himself. That is Satan's desire. Satan will, however, especially seek to bring about failure by destroying the basis of the earthly establishment of the Kingdom of God on the earth, which would by its establishment remove Satan's authority in the sole remaining part of Satan's kingdom.

We have shown that a kingdom consists of four main elements, namely, a Monarch, a Citizenry, a Law Contract which unites them, and an area free of the alien influences which would tend towards corruption of the same.

Further, we gave instances from the Bible in which The Almighty has made a sequence of preparatory selections of a particular line of humanity, which is to advance the groundwork for the advent of God's Kingdom rule upon the earth. God made promises to Adam and Eve, concerning "seed", to Noah concerning safety from a general destruction by water, to Abraham and Sarah concerning multiplicity of their progeny, to their seed, Isaac, and to Rebekah, to Jacob and his tribal descendants, with particular attention to his son, Joseph, and likewise to the whole nation of Israel at Mount Sinai. Promises were made to King David, to Solomon, and to many more, including Mary and Joseph leading up to Christ's First Advent. Some promises were directed particularly towards the forthcoming Monarchy, eventually to culminate in Jesus Christ, some towards the national entity of Israel as a people, some others towards the keeping of God's Covenant in that God would write His Law on "tables of flesh" in The New Covenant, and still more to the appointment of a Promised Land, a place for the seed-bed of the Kingdom to be nourished. Every promise must be kept by God or He will be a liar. Every promise, therefore becomes "fair game" in Satan's strategy which is directed to preventing the conditions for a perfect fulfilment.

MONARCHY
Consider the following promises, granted in prophetic passages by God. II Samuel 7:16-17 regarding Monarchy, states:

16. And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.
17. According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.

Here we see that "thine house" (i.e. - the Davidic Monarchy and David's Throne) is promised to continue for ever from that moment onward.

CITIZENRY
Next let us consider the words found in Genesis 15:3-6, Genesis 17:15 and Exodus 33:1. Genesis 15:3-6, spoken at a time when Abram had no children from his own loins, states these words:

3. And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir.
4. And, behold, the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.
5. And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.
6. And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.

Thus the racial stock born to Abram must be exceedingly numerous. The sense is not of spiritual affinity in an outworking millennia later, but of literal flesh, otherwise God has definitely misled that aged Patriarch. Then to confirm that last statement, we read in Genesis 17:15:

15. And God said unto Abraham, As for Sarai thy wife, thou shalt not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall her name be.
16. And I will bless her, and give thee a son also of her: yea, I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of people shall be of her.

Here, The Almighty has made the firm declaration that a genetic, (that is to say, a racial) fleshly progeny produced out of Abram's and Sarai's own loins, will be numbered as the stars in multitude forming a constellation of nations. Other passages confirm the sense of this statement, for we read in Exodus 33:1:

1 And the LORD said unto Moses, Depart, and go up hence, thou and the people which thou hast brought up out of the land of Egypt, unto the land which I sware unto Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, Unto thy seed will I give it:

The promised seed line mentioned here, which descends from Abraham through Isaac to Jacob, and hence to the nation of Israel; the nation which is here being addressed by Moses, is the same one which is the promised line in Genesis 15:3-6. Thus the racial line of descent from Abraham through his descendants, the Patriarchs Isaac and Jacob is clearly promised as an unconditional family continuity.

DIVINE LAW
Thirdly, we ought to consider what God promised concerning His Law at Mount Sinai, and in Deuteronomy 28, which some have called a "conditional" covenant, but there is nothing conditional when the two paths, acceptance and rejection are both covered therein! The circumstances are amplified in Jeremiah 31 and Ezekiel 11. Consider Jeremiah 31:31-36

31. Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
32. Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD:
33. But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
34. And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
35. Thus saith the LORD, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar; The LORD of hosts is his name:
36. If those ordinances depart from before me, saith the LORD, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever.

The thrust of that passage is also found in that of Ezekiel 11:14-20:

14. Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
15. Son of man, thy brethren, even thy brethren, the men of thy kindred, and all the house of Israel wholly, are they unto whom the inhabitants of Jerusalem have said, Get you far from the LORD: unto us is this land given in possession.
16. Therefore say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Although I have cast them far off among the heathen, and although I have scattered them among the countries, yet will I be to them as a little sanctuary in the countries where they shall come.
17. Therefore say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will even gather you from the people, and assemble you out of the countries where ye have been scattered, and I will give you the land of Israel.
18. And they shall come thither, and they shall take away all the detestable things thereof and all the abominations thereof from thence.
19. And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them an heart of flesh:
20. That they may walk in my statutes, and keep mine ordinances, and do them: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God.

We shall continue with this subject in the next Bible Study.

SATANIC STRATEGY - PART VII

Having been thrust out of heaven together with his angelic followers which, as we read in Judges 1:6, "kept not their first estate", Satan has great aspirations, and a comprehensive knowledge of God's Law. He has desired to ascend into heaven, (Isaiah 14:13)and to exalt his throne above the stars of God (which may be taken as a symbol for God's Angelic host).

On the previous study, we reviewed those covenants and words of promise granted to men by The Almighty regarding the Monarchy, the Citizenry, and the establishment of God's Law, as constituent foundation elements of the Kingdom of Heaven as it is being developed here on the earth, eventually to function as it exists in heaven.

There yet remained the fourth aspect of such a kingdom, to add to the list, namely, a National Sovereign Area, a Territorial Dominion in which the interaction of Monarch and Citizenry can function guided by the Law Code of The Almighty God unimpeded by alien influences.

NATIONAL TERRITORIAL DOMINION
This is the Fourth component, and we may read some points for consideration in I Chronicles 16:13-17:

13. O ye seed of Israel his servant, ye children of Jacob, his chosen ones.
14. He is the LORD our God; his judgments are in all the earth.
15. Be ye mindful always of his covenant; the word which he commanded to a thousand generations;
16. Even of the covenant which he made with Abraham, and of his oath unto Isaac;
17. And hath confirmed the same to Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant,
18. Saying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance;

At a point at which the last of Israel was being removed out of that land because of their sins, we must take this passage in association with Jeremiah 33:

19. And the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah, saying,
20. Thus saith the LORD; If ye can break my covenant of the day, and my covenant of the night, and that there should not be day and night in their season;
21. Then may also my covenant be broken with David my servant, that he should not have a son to reign upon his throne; and with the Levites the priests, my ministers.
22. As the host of heaven cannot be numbered, neither the sand of the sea measured: so will I multiply the seed of David my servant, and the Levites that minister unto me.
23. Moreover the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, saying,
24. Considerest thou not what this people have spoken, saying, The two families which the LORD hath chosen, he hath even cast them off? thus they have despised my people, that they should be no more a nation before them.
25. Thus saith the LORD; If my covenant be not with day and night, and if I have not appointed the ordinances of heaven and earth;
26. Then will I cast away the seed of Jacob, and David my servant, so that I will not take any of his seed to be rulers over the seed of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob: for I will cause their captivity to return, and have mercy on them.

In the same connection, we should look at another aspect of God's promised development of His Kingdom. It is found in II Samuel 7:8-10, which reads:

8. Now therefore so shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, to be ruler over my people, over Israel:
9. And I was with thee whithersoever thou wentest, and have cut off all thine enemies out of thy sight, and have made thee a great name, like unto the name of the great men that are in the earth.
10. Moreover I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own, and move no more; neither shall the children of wickedness afflict them any more, as beforetime,

This is a future situation, promised when Israel under King David was at the time already dwelling in Canaan, (The Promised Land) and in relative peace, shows that later, after some future upheaval and movement, there would be appointed another planting place, from which enemies would not again move them, and in light of the promise to Abraham (Genesis 17:4-5) that there would develop many nations within God's Patriarchal selected line of descent from him whose very name indicates the fact, there is the prospect of multiple areas of safety.

As the presumed vulnerable components of God's Kingdom are:
1. The lineage of the Monarchy,
2. The Racial Progeny of the selected Israel people physically descended of the loins of The Patriarchal line,
3. The Law Contract of The Almighty God with Israel, and
4. The National occupancy of an Appointed Place free of alien infusions,
Satan will seek especially:
1. To kill the lineage of the Monarchy,
2. To destroy Israel's Racial descendants, by confusion, murderous dissension and the wages of Sin,
3. To take God's Law from the hearts of Israel and Judah by preventing its transmission to the young, while substituting error-filled humanism,
4. To destroy any possibility of the sanctuary offered by national sovereignty developing prior to Christ's Second Advent.

As Satan sees the time is short, he will redouble his efforts to achieve those results before that hour comes upon the world, with the signal of the trump of God, which will end his chances for victory.

In the Bible Studies which are to follow, We shall be examining, in turn, each of the four areas which we have outlined as the essential components of the earthly manifestation of that Kingdom of Heaven for which Christ told us to pray, that it shall come into operation on earth as it is operating in heaven. We will ponder the multiplicity of ways which Satan is evidently employing in order to probe and harry, to tempt and to exert his fury against each of the four aspects of The Kingdom of God, as he seeks to find even one point of legal leverage at which he may hope to press home an advantage. He is growing desperate as the legal time allowed him before he must yield up his earthly dominance ebbs away. He will vent his fury or sweetly tempt, varying his manner with malice towards the House of God, in order to snag the processes leading to his doom. He is growing quite furious, in pressing every pretended advantage, thus to prevent his own arraignment before the Lord God, Who will sit in Judgment upon him. As the telling passage in Revelation 12 describes the situation, we find Satan symbolically portrayed in the vision as a great red dragon cast out of heaven, and seeking to make war upon the woman "who brought forth a man child who was to rule all nations... ." In the words of verse 12, "...Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time." It is really all unfolding in such a logical pattern, just as the Prophets have foretold. Aspects that will make the Kingdom of God functional at Christ's Second Advent are the particular targets presently under attack by Satan.

SATANIC STRATEGY - PART VIII

By Douglas C. Nesbit, B.A.

Our ongoing series of Bible Studies, which began with the Call by The Almighty God to Abram in Ur of the Chaldees, in Genesis 12, has taken us through the sequence of subsequent Biblical passages which relate the family history of the generations of the Patriarchs and tribes of his progeny as they entered Egypt, and later emerged into Sinai through the miracles of The Exodus, heading eventually towards their Promised Land under the guidance of Moses and the direction of The Almighty God.

Consideration of the Levitical cities of refuge which were to be appointed in The Promised Land brought up a discussion regarding guilt, and hence a discussion of Satan, himself, whose name means "the adversary" or "the accuser."

Satan has great aspirations, and a comprehensive knowledge of God's Law. He has desired to ascend into heaven, and to exalt his throne above the stars of God.

Knowing that he, himself, lied to Adam and Eve and brought about murder in consequence, and realising that he will be judged for the results of that lie, his legal strategy, in the simplest of terms, is limited to one main theme. He must cause God, The Judge to withdraw from the seat of Judgment. This is a legal possibility which might occur should God be presented with a predicament in which He has undertaken an unconditional commitment to some portion of mankind which He cannot fulfil. The Bible holds many such unconditional commitments of The Almighty, and all such statements will be subject to Satanic interference and attacks as far as he is able to mount them. Should God fail to fulfil any single such commitment to any part of mankind, God will have told a lie. "Liar", and "Murderer" are the two chief charges against Satan, but if God fails to bring everything to pass as He has stated, He cannot thereafter retain the moral authority to judge another on the same charge. Satan is desperately assailing all facets of the legal possibility. He seeks to ruin at least one of God's unfolding steps leading to the establishment upon the earth of the Kingdom of Heaven.

Satan, in seeking to disrupt the advent of that Kingdom, has four sub-targets, namely Monarch, Citizenry, The Code of Law forming an agreement between these, and the Domain free of alien interference where it functions. Today, we are starting to look at the first aspect, The Monarchy.

A Monarch can cease to function in the office of a King by his own death, by his forcible removal and exclusion from the Throne, or by the removal or fragmentation of the nation from under his power to maintain order, and to control the affairs of state. In the case which we are examining from the Biblical Record, there is an additional consideration. The Monarchical line must also be composed, link by link down through history, of that promised seed of the Patriarchs of which we read in Genesis 17:16, "I will bless her, (Sarah) and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of people shall be of her", and to King David in II Samuel 7:8-19, a passage which ends by recording David's reply in the words "Then went king David in, and sat before the LORD, and he said, Who am I, O Lord GOD? and what is my house, that thou hast brought me hitherto? And this was yet a small thing in thy sight, O Lord GOD; but thou hast spoken also of thy servant's house for a great while to come. And is this the manner of man, O Lord GOD?" To this we must add Jeremiah 33, in which that Prophet confirms the matter at the time when all such continuity must have seemed lost in the Babylonian assault.

Each generation of the monarchy in turn must be one consistent with the provisions laid down in the original Covenants, in the manner in which these were clearly understood by the recipients concerned, namely, that the marriages must each, in turn, form a consistent racial line of descent down through the centuries and millennia from Abraham and Sarah. Any break in that aspect of genealogical commitment on the part of The Almighty will constitute a failure to implement His literal Covenant with the Patriarchs for it was of the fleshly loins of Abraham and Sarah, that it must come. In brief, miscegenation is not an option. We can determine that from the fact that Abram and Sarai were half-siblings, (Genesis 20:12), and from the Godly reaction of Isaac and Rebekah to Esau's wives, (Genesis 27:46), and the requirement that Jacob seek a wife among the relatives of their own people.

In that regard, incidentally we might say some brief comments regarding the three cases of Asenath, of Rahab, mentioned in the taking of Jericho (Joshua 2), and of Ruth, although these have received more extensive comment in previous studies.

Asenath, the wife of Joseph, was a daughter of the priestly class in Egypt which held office during the period when Abraham, Isaac and Jacob dwelt in Canaan, and it is quite consistent with God's provisions, indeed one may say it was mandatory on God's part, to choose for Joseph's wife one of the same Semitic stock as that to which those Patriarchs belonged. One thing we must keep in mind is the fact that God does not, ever, break His own Laws, especially in such cases where future generations of the core people of His selection are being formed. Joseph was not alone in being taken to Egypt as a slave. Many Semitic people permeated the population of that land in all strata of society in that time.

The New Bible Dictionary, under the item concerning Rahab, who lived in Jericho, states "She is almost certainly to be identified with Rahab (AV 'Rachab') the wife of Salmon and mother of Boaz, ancestor of David, who is included in our Lord's genealogy in Mt. I. 5." Rahab is termed a harlot, but that does not indicate her racial background, and indeed, some have even looked at the alternative meaning of "seller", "one sold" in the Greek references, and propounded the possibility that in this case it may be a reference in part to her being an innkeeper.

In the case of Ruth, we should point out that by her day North Moab had been for many years held by the Amorites who excluded racial Moabites from the scene, and upon the land's further more recent occupancy by the Tribe of Reuben when Israel in turn ejected the Amorites, Israelites of that Tribe formed the population of that land, so Ruth, the "Moabitess" would assuredly have been of the Tribe of Reuben, and not of an alien stock, regardless of conventional teaching on the matter.

Prior to Christ's First Advent, Satan sought to kill the lineage of Israel's Monarchy down to Christ. There exist quite a number of methods by which Satan can contrive to bring about the elimination of a genealogical link in a line of monarchs. He can seek to use the weapons of an enemy, or a deadly sickness. He can use carefully implanted lies or covetousness. He can use laziness in implementing the Law, or a preference for forbidden sexual lust. Satan can use the anger of other members of a monarch's own family, or even The Laws of The Almighty God Himself to achieve the result which he seeks to create.

David, as a young man, had valiantly faced the threat of death at Goliath's hand. But later we read of an example of the more subtle form of attack, which uses God's Law. Exodus 22:1 states: "If a man shall steal an ox, or a sheep, and kill it, or sell it; he shall restore five oxen for an ox, and four sheep for a sheep." How did this intrude upon the scene?

While his army was away fighting a war, David saw from his palace, the beautiful Bathsheba, wife of one of his soldiers called Uriah the Hittite. We probably remember the story. He sent for her, and lay with her. Later, upon being informed that the result was that Bathsheba was "with child", David, seeking to evade public shame, tried to cover his sin by arranging that her husband should have opportunity to lie with her himself. Uriah, however, did not avail himself of the opportunity, and, in a further attempt to solve the dreaded embarrassment, David then gave the cruel order to his commander that Uriah should be placed in a vulnerable position in the assault near the enemy wall, and thus killed. With the death of Uriah the Hittite, Nathan came to David and used a story to reveal that David's sin was not hidden from God, and was discovered to that Prophet.

The story is contained in II Samuel 12:1-10. However, as that portion of our Study would carry us beyond the time available on today's presentation, perhaps we might just note that Satan is creating great havoc with all aspects of society today, and not least, with his continuing attempts to assail every portion of that Kingdom of God which, The LORD showed the Prophet Daniel, would be like a stone, cut out of the mountain without hands, and which would be gradually forming up during the times of the non-Israel world empires symbolised by the dream image of gold, silver, brass (bronze) and iron with its feet, partly of iron and part of clay, and would break that sequence of empires, and would thereafter grow to fill the whole earth.
